Congratulations to senior Liam Moore, who has earned the distinction of National Merit Finalist. This honor is based on his PSAT scores from his junior year. This tremendous accomplishment, which is extended to less than 1% of high school seniors in the United States, makes him eligible for prestigious National Merit Scholarships to colleges and universities across the United States. Liam, we are proud of you!
Senior Ryan Sissons earned the Boy Scout Ad Altare Dei Catholic religious medal. Last Sunday, Archbishop Thompson presented the medal to Sissons during a Religious Emblems ceremony for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. This award recognizes his dedication to his Catholic faith and scouting. Congratulations to Ryan!

Last weekend, the Roncalli wrestling team finished in fourth place in the Southport regional and advanced eight of its wrestlers to next Saturday’s semi-state at New Castle. Sophomore Bryce Lowery won his second-straight regional title.
“We are excited for our eight wrestlers who have an opportunity to compete at next week’s semi-state,” said Roncalli wrestling head coach Wade McClurg. “Our program works really hard 12 months out of the year in preparation for the IHSAA State Tournament, and these eight guys are now just two matches away from earning their spot in the state finals. We are going to get ready to wrestle this week, and then go try to put a lot of points on the scoreboard in our individual matches on Saturday at New Castle Chrysler Fieldhouse.”
Lowery will be joined at semi-state by seven of his teammates, who advanced by finishing in the top four of their respective classes. Juniors Kody Glithero (second place), Zach Wilson (second place), Sam Peeples (third place), Justin Lewis (third place) Andrew Stuck (fourth place) advanced, as did sophomore Luke Hansen (third place), and freshman Braden Getz (fourth place).
The Royals will compete tomorrow morning, Saturday, February 13, at New Castle in the semi-state. The tournament begins at 9:00 AM. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state finals. We wish good luck to all of eight wrestling Royals!
Over the weekend, the Roncalli girls basketball team won the program’s 16th sectional title, and the first since 2016, with a 44-27 win over Perry Meridian at Ben Davis. Roncalli advanced to the sectional final with wins over Pike (65-52) and Ben Davis (66-58). Senior Madelyn Bischoff scored a team-high 16 points in the win over Perry Meridian and sophomore Savanna Bischoff added 13 points.
“I’m so proud of what this group has been able to accomplish so far this season,” said Roncalli girls basketball head coach Tim Gray. “Our seniors told me in our first meeting that their goal was to win championships. Our team’s ability to stay focused on the process and trust in our growth has led to two championships. The buy-in and commitment from our girls and our coaches has been exceptional.”
With the win, the Royals improved their record to 20-4 and ran their winning streak to a season-high tying nine games. This season is only the eighth 20-win season in the program’s 47-year history and the first 20-win season since 2015-16. The Royals face Mount Vernon (18-5) at 1:00 PM tomorrow Saturday, February 13, at Decatur Central in the Class 4A regional semifinal.

A los padres/tutores: Vacunas para el año escolar 2021-22
The Indiana State Department of Health and Department of Education has mandatory immunizations for every student enrolled in an Indiana school. Roncalli High School must follow these requirements to stay in compliance; even if a physicians’ immunization and dosing schedules show more flexibility.
Immunization requirements for 2021-22 require all high school students to have 2 Hepatitis A vaccines, administered a minimum 6 months apart.
Also 2 Meningitis MCV4 vaccines are required for Class of 2022 prior to the start of their senior year.
If your child has not received these, please make arrangements to get these vaccines and forward proof of immunization. County Health Departments can assist with these vaccinations.
Documentation needs to be sent to the Guidance Office: fax 317-788-2282 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Click the link below to see all required vaccinations for the 2021-22 school year.

It could be seen as silly to talk about spring break and next year’s moratorium week but many of our families have to make travel arrangements well in advance for a variety of family related reasons. Spring Break will begin with the dismissal of school at 3:00 PM on Thursday, March 18. School will resume at 7:30 AM on Monday, March 29.
To maintain the integrity of the school calendar and instructional time, Roncalli does not allow a family to extend Spring Break by leaving early or returning late without a significant academic penalty. For full details on the policy, please click on the link at the end of the newsletter. Thank you to our parents who have given us tremendous support of this policy through the years.
Additionally, as a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Roncalli High School must adhere to the moratorium week requirements set forth by the association. The 2021 Moratorium Week for the summer of 2021 will be from June 28 - July 5. At Roncalli this means there will be no open gym/no open facilities, no practices, games, rehearsals, etc. There are to be no student activities at all during this week.

The Indiana Department of Education is not backing away from requiring the ISTEP+ to be administered this semester in person (No Virtual Testing Allowed) to all juniors in the state. The ISTEP+ encompasses nearly 10 hours of testing and can only be administered during a specific window of time in February established by the DOE. Planning on how best to schedule the administration of these tests while in the midst of a hybrid schedule has proven to be challenging. After a thorough analysis of options Roncalli High School has elected to use the following schedule to best accommodate our juniors who are testing as well as our other students who are not testing.
Final Testing Date - 23 (Mathematics)
All juniors will report to Roncalli at 7:45 AM for testing on this date. Juniors using the resource program for extended time for testing will report to school at 7:30 AM. Their school day will end at approximately 2:15 PM. Lunch will be served. Please know that all juniors must be present on this day including those students who to date have been full time synchronous learners.
All freshmen, sophomores and seniors will be synchronously learning from home on these two dates.
Thank you once again for your flexibility as we continue to provide our students and families with the absolute best learning environment while still tending to the Covid-19 precautionary measures.
Please contact Roncalli High School Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs, Beth Reel, should you have any questions about the ISTEP+ or the schedule we are using on February 23.
