Congratulations to the girls varsity volleyball team for earning the 2020-21 Circle City Conference championship last Monday! They defeated Heritage Christian in five exciting sets to clinch the title. Roncalli defeated Heritage Christian 24-26, 26-28, 25-21, 25-14, 17-15. This is the girls varsity volleyball fifth consecutive conference championship title.
Junior Emma Halter had 37 digs and 2 aces. Junior Sarah Lezon had 14 kills, 9 blocks, 9 digs and 1 ace, while senior Miranda Wilson had 16 kills, 3 blocks and 5 digs.
“The girls’ performance against an undefeated defending state champion, on the road in a challenging environment, was one of the grittiest efforts I’ve seen by a Roncalli team. This conference championship was well earned!” said Athletic Director David Lauck.
The Roncalli boys tennis team won its 12th sectional title, and its fourth straight, with a 3-2 win on Thursday over the host Franklin Central. Senior Tyler Schofield won at #1 singles and junior Ty Ransburg was victorious at #3 singles. Seniors Josh Wormann and Cole Elzea clinched the title with a three-set victory at #2 doubles. Roncalli advanced to the final after a 5-0 win over Beech Grove in Wednesday’s semifinal round. In the final, Roncalli was able to defeat Franklin Central, who had beaten Roncalli 3-2 in late August.
“I’m proud of the team as a whole because they never gave up,” said head coach Jim Stone. “I’m happy for the number two doubles team for winning their match after dropping the first set.”
With the win, the team improved its record to 10-11. Roncalli advances to next Tuesday’s (October 6) regional semifinal at Center Grove, where it will face the winner of the Southport sectional.
On Thursday, Mrs. Lani Cummings hung up her apron for the last time at Roncalli. Her contributions to Roncalli the past 23 years have been remarkable. If you enjoyed a cafeteria cookie, hot dog bar, taco Friday or turkey manhattan, and who hasn't, while a student or staff member then you have Lani Iozzo Cummings to thank for the memory. Good luck in your retirement, Lani, and thanks for taking such great care of us all these years!
Picture retakes will be on Tuesday, October 6th from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (not in the morning) in the RHS cafeteria. Students who are in school that day will be called down during 8th period to get their picture taken. Any student who is at home due to the hybrid schedule or synchronously learning from home, must come in after school for their retake. Any student who did not get their picture taken on the first day of school, will need to have their picture taken on this day. A student who does not get their picture taken will not be included in the school yearbook. Anyone who is doing a picture retake, must bring back their picture packet. Students who are getting their picture taken can be out of uniform, but shorts, jeans or inappropriate clothing are not allowed. There are picture information and payment packets available in the main office. Please contact Kevin Banich, Assistant Principal for Student Life.
Congratulations to the entire Girls Varsity Volleyball team, who was recognized as the Above and Beyond Players of the Week for winning their fifth consecutive Circle City Conference by the Athletic Director David Lauck and Jersey Mike’s Subs!
Last week, a member of the STAND Up team presented valuable information to all students in their Theology classes. This team is made up of administrators, counselors, teachers and our school social worker. The team seeks to identify students experiencing physical, social, emotional or spiritual difficulties and to remove the barriers which interfere with learning. The goal is to empower these students to experience the same opportunities for growth and development that God intends for all young people. For more information, click here.
As a member of the Roncalli community, if you have a concern about a student with regards to depression, anxiety, eating disorders, any form of bullying, self-harm, substance abuse, aggressive behaviors and/or an incident involving harassment, or anything that may negatively affect a student's physical, social, emotional or spiritual health, please fill out this form - STAND Up Report Form. A hard copy can also be found in the carousel outside of the Guidance Office.
It takes all of us working as a team together to help our students become the people God intended them to be.
Next Monday and Tuesday, students will receive their yellow collection envelopes in their 8th period classes. These will be turned in beginning Friday, October 23 in the morning before school and during lunch periods. (Even when students reach their goal online, students need to turn in their envelopes.) When turning these envelopes in with the student’s goal met, they will receive their Walkathon t-shirt, out of uniform wristband for the days leading up to the walk and COOKIE COUPONS!
This year’s Walkathon is a virtual walk taking place on Friday, October 30. The Walkathon is the only all school fundraiser in which Roncalli students are asked to participate. Every dollar raised through Walkathon funds provides needs-based tuition assistance for Roncalli families.
All students received an email from Boost My School. This contains their individual link to share in order to receive online donations. If your student did not receive this email, please contact Jeen Endris.
Want to show your support of this year’s Walkathon, we need gift cards for our students who reach beyond their goal and raise $100 or more in donations. Great ideas for gift cards: gas cards, Starbucks and fast food places. Send card to Jeen Endris at Roncalli, 3300 Prague Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
