In an effort to be attentive to the needs of all of our students, parents who feel their child is struggling academically, socially, emotionally and/or spiritually in the hybrid schedule, may now petition the school asking that their child be allowed to attend school in person on a daily basis! Parents interested in pursuing this opportunity for their child should click on and complete this application. Once the application has been completed, you will receive an email response confirming the date of your student(s) daily reentry.
School will not be in session on Friday, September 25 and on Friday, November 6 for teacher enrichment. Please see the information emailed to families earlier this week.
Congratulations to Roncalli seniors Ali Dafforn (Ss. Francis and Clare), Celeste Gorball (St. Roch), Patrick Luttrell (St. Roch), Roncalli graduates, Cassidy Cross R’20 (St. Mark), Olivia Hornek R’20 (St. Mark), Sydney Silcox R’20 (Nativity) and Sarah Wulf R’20 (Good Shepherd) for receiving the Catholic Youth Organization’s Spirit of Youth award. These students were recognized for their dedication to volunteerism and continued commitment to service of others.
The Spirit of Youth Award is presented to teens who have exhibited a commitment to volunteerism and perform outstanding service within the parish for those in need and in the larger community. The awards will be presented at each of their parishes.
Principal Chuck Weisenbach said, “We are very proud of these students for having earned this award! Our mission calls for us to partner with our parents and parishes in the education and faith formation of our young people! It is exciting when our young people embrace their faith the way these students and graduates have done! They are great ambassadors for their family, parish and our school!”
Roncalli High School is delighted to announce that three members of the Class of 2021 have been named National Merit Commended Students by The College Board. This designation is the second highest national academic honor a high school student can receive. Commended student status means that from the over 1.5 million seniors who took the PSAT last year, these students scored in the top 3% of the country’s brightest seniors.
Lucy Houser, Robert McKay and Grace Suiaung join the earlier announced National Merit Semi-Finalist, John (Liam) Moore, to make four members of this Roncalli Class of 2021 that have been recognized in what is the most prestigious, competitive academic honors program in the country. Roncalli is proud of these outstanding students and extends congratulations to their families and elementary schools who prepared them so well for the vigor of a Roncalli High School education.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided a waiver that will allow every student at Roncalli to receive a free breakfast meal and a free lunch meal everyday! Any one of our fabulous lunch choices will be available to your student at no charge!! (Reminder: A breakfast meal must include juice or fruit and a lunch meal must include at least one fruit or vegetable to make it a lunch.) All ala carte choices (water, cookies, shakes, chips, etc.) will still be charged at the normal price as will second servings of any entree. If your student is staying hybrid, they are also welcome to come down to the snack bar after school and pick up a peanut butter and jelly lunch for the next day as well as a breakfast at no charge! This waiver is good through the end of December or until the money from the USDA runs out, so let's take advantage of this while we can!

Stu Co is excited to announce the 2020 Homecoming Court, as voted on by the Class of 2021. These 14 seniors and their parents will be presented at halftime of the homecoming football game on October 2, where the queen and king will be crowned, as voted on by the student body.
Roncalli's Student Council has planned a fun-filled Homecoming Spirit Week, set for September 28-October 2! From class competitions to cornhole tournaments to dress-up days, they've prepared a weeklong celebration of the Roncalli spirit!
Whether attending class at-home or at-school, students and staff are encouraged to come dressed up according to these themes:
September 28th is Cartoon Monday - What's your favorite cartoon? Is it a classic you watched as a kid? Or a new cartoon you watch on Netflix? Dress up as your favorite cartoon character!
September 29th is Dream Vacation Tuesday - If you could choose any vacation you wanted, what would it be? Show us by dressing up for your dream vacation, whether it's a European backpacking adventure, a Hawaiian snorkeling expedition, or climbing Mt. Everest!
September 30th is Wild Wednesday - We want everyone to embrace the wild west, wilderness, and/or wild jungles. So the halls will be filled with a wild mix of cowboys, hikers, and jungle animals!
October 1st is Generations Thursday - On this day, we celebrate the full spectrum of the phases of life. Freshmen dress as toddlers/little kids; Sophomores dress as tweens; Juniors dress as soccer moms and fanny pack-wearing dads; Seniors dress as senior citizens, Staff dress as high schoolers!
October 2nd is Red, White, & Blue Friday - Here's where we pull out all the stops and dress from head to toe in our best and brightest Roncalli gear!
More guidelines and details will be shared soon, especially about how students who go above and beyond with their dress-up outfits can earn gift cards for themselves and class competition points for their grade! And that's just one of the class competitions Stu Co has planned. Stay tuned for more info next week.
Important planning note related to Homecoming Spirit Week: The semi-formal dance traditionally held at the end of Homecoming Spirit Week will instead be planned for the end of the Winter Spirit Week.
After much prayer and discussion, it has been decided the Sacred Sounds concert originally scheduled for October 5 will not be presented as planned. Instead, the choirs will tape their performances for family and friends to watch in their own homes. More details on how to access this concert will be provided in the near future.
This week's video features Roncalli junior, Kathryn Madriz. She speaks of what makes her unique and different, but how that makes her experience at Roncalli that much more special. "It doesn't really matter how different we are, we can all connect."
For more information on the school and all we have to offer, please visit roncalli.org.
A letter was mailed out weeks ago to the parents of all of our current freshmen informing them of a requirement to attend one of our Required Freshman Parent meetings taking place this fall. This required freshman parent meeting was instituted 11 years ago, primarily as a means to try and establish or insure some “common ground” between our parents as primary educators and Roncalli as secondary educators. The meetings have received positive reviews from parents.
There is only one more opportunity for parents to attend. The date is September 29. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM in the school’s auditorium.
NOTE: Parents who have had a freshman student previously at Roncalli are NOT required to attend one of these meetings. Failure to attend one of these meetings will result in the student not being allowed to stay at Roncalli for the second semester of the school year.
Please direct all questions to principal, Chuck Weisenbach, (317) 787-8277, extension 224.
Roncalli Media Network - we're playing Guerin Catholic at home this Friday at 7:30 PM. Tune in to see and hear the action!

Roncalli High School works with local law enforcement officials continuously reviewing and updating our Emergency Preparedness Plan based on best practices learned from school experiences all across the country. Law enforcement has shared with us that a review of some school shootings shows that they have taken place during the time period in the morning prior to the start of school when students, teachers and staff are arriving on campus and entering the school. They (law enforcement) have recommended that we collect student cell phone numbers so that we can communicate directly with students if an emergency situation exists in the time period leading up to the start of school when we may have students in the parking lot, driving into school, etc.
NOTE: The school's only use of these numbers will be for emergency notification.
During the week of September 21st, we are going to begin collecting freshman and transfer students' cell phone numbers. Please notify Tim Crissman our Dean of Students if you as parents do not wish for Roncalli to have your child's cell phone number.

The Indiana State Department of Health has provided guidelines to help parents screen their child for symptoms related to COVID-19. Should you find that your child has one or more of the symptoms, please keep your child home. Please call the school and let us know of the current conditions. The school will follow up with each symptomatic student's parents with regards to return to school protocols. It is highly recommended as well that you contact your health care provider to discuss your child's health situation. Congratulations to this year’s design winner Ella McCalip! Her design will be printed on this year’s Walkathon t-shirt.
This year’s Walkathon is a virtual walk taking place on Friday, October 30th. The Walkathon is the only all school fundraiser in which Roncalli students are asked to participate. Every dollar raised through Walkathon funds provides needs-based tuition assistance for Roncalli families.

We are so excited to be seeing so many creative ways that students are seeking out those in need, especially in their own neighborhoods. If you are still looking for some ideas on what you could do to complete your nine hours of service by Monday, September 28, here are some suggestions.
Those in nursing homes or assisted living facilities cannot receive many (or any) visitors right now. How about reaching out to a nursing home or assisted living facility in your area and see what you could do to help out? Here are some ideas that you could consider: writing letters to residents; drawing/painting pictures; yard work outside of the facilities; creating a music video to be shared with the residents... the sky's the limit!
Not aware of any nursing homes in your area? Here are some examples of facilities that our students have volunteered at in the past: Altenheim Nursing Home, Ashford Place, Aspen Trace Senior Living, Beech Grove Meadows, Bethany Village, Greenwood Village South, Madison Healthcare Center, Magnolia Springs, Miller's Merry Manor, Morning Pointe of Franklin, Rosegate Nursing Home, Southpointe Healthcare Center, St. Paul's Hermitage.
Here's another idea… reach out to someone in need in your own neighborhood. Any of the following would count toward service hours, right in your own "backyard".
We hope that these suggestions spur on some ideas in the minds of our students. We cannot wait to see what our Roncalli family will do for those in need.
Roncalli offers a comprehensive Corporate Sponsor program that supports our students in several exciting ways, including tuition assistance and broadcasting opportunities. There are many benefits in sponsoring and supporting Roncalli. Your company will be exposed to other like-minded businesses that also support Roncalli. Almost 1,100 students, 125 faculty and staff, an alumni base of over 13,500 and thousands of Roncalli parents, relatives and friends will have an opportunity to see your business ad at some point during the school year. Our newest opportunity will include signage opportunities in the Ascension St. Vincent Gymnasium. Space will be limited so if your business is interested in supporting Roncalli through Walkathon, Roncalli Media Network, Homecoming, Fall Sports, Rebel 5ive podcast, Rebelation or brand new opportunities in Roncalli’s newest multiple use facility, Ascension St. Vincent Gymnasium, please email Gary Armbruster or call him at 317-525-7046.
Roncalli's Cafeteria is looking for employees that have the best interests of our students at their heart! The Department of Transportation has begun work on the roundabout at Sherman Drive and Thompson Road, which limits access to Roncalli from the east. However, Thompson Road remains open to access Roncalli from the west. This construction/closure has created additional traffic congestion on McFarland Road and the south entrance to our campus. Families from St. Mark, St. Barnabas, Ss. Francis & Clare are strongly encouraged to use Madison Avenue, US 31, Meridian Street, or State Road 37/465 to access Thompson Road and come in the north entrance of our campus. There is minimal traffic using the north entrance so this will alleviate some stress and expedite your trip by using the north entrance.

Please review these needs, and email Andi Baker or call 317-787-8277, ext. 221 in the main office if you can assist.
