As a Catholic high school in the archdiocese of Indianapolis, Roncalli High School exists under the auspices of the Archbishop of Indianapolis. We are blessed to have the Most Reverend Charles C. Thompson as our archbishop and shepherd!
In his 2018 pastoral letter, We Are One in Christ, Archbishop Thompson wrote,
“Social justice can be obtained only in respecting the transcendent dignity of man … No one is ‘better’ than anyone else. All deserve respect. All share basic human rights. No one is exempt from the responsibility to support and assist fellow human beings—whether they are from the same family/community, or they are strangers who are foreign to us in some way. Every human person, as created in the image of God, is a member of God’s family. For Christians, this also means that we are sisters and brothers of Christ and each other.”
Roncalli joins Archbishop Thompson in advocating for social justice and an end to the sin of racism. Let us pray for wisdom, justice, peace and the healing of all divisions in our country. We encourage all to read in its entirety Archbishop Thompson’s statement in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
God of love and justice, St. Paul proclaimed that “there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. May we be emboldened by your living Word to rid the world of the sin of discrimination in our attitudes and actions. Help us to seek the unity that Paul saw so clearly so that all forms of injustice will cease. Grant us the courage and determination to be prophets of peace. May we welcome one another as brothers and sisters, rooted in your everlasting love. Amen
Come Holy Spirit!
As clarity from federal, state, local, and Archdiocesan guidelines emerge for the upcoming school year, we plan to evaluate the possibility of rescheduling Grandparent’s Day for the 2020-2021 school year. We had previously taken steps to announce that our Grandparent’s Day that was scheduled for September 4, 2020 was cancelled due to the vulnerability of our grandparents' health during COVID 19. With so many unknowns related to how schools and other organizations will be able to accommodate large gatherings in a manner consistent with public health recommendations, we will postpone Grandparent’s Day at this time and look for a date later in the school year.
Once more clarity emerges related to gatherings like school assemblies and other large community events, the leadership team at Roncalli will evaluate whether or not it may be possible to preserve the opportunity to safely celebrate this cherished Roncalli Family tradition. Let’s ask God to bless our continuing efforts to be together as an extended family once again!
Congratulations to all of our students who earned Honor Roll status during the recently completed second semester of the school year! We are very proud of our students who work so diligently on their academic studies! Great job Roncalli scholars!
In response to not being able to hold CYO summer camps, CYO is offering CYO Sports Palooza. Read how you can get your family involved and build teams for active summer fun!
The NHS cords are usually ordered after we return from spring break, but due to the circumstances of this year, there was not an efficient way to process the orders and collect the money from each family. If you would like to order one on your own, please use the link at the end of this announcement. Be sure to order the royal, gold, and white cord. Contact Erin Bohn with any questions.
Roncalli High School is excited to celebrate our fantastic seniors! Plans are set for having a memorable graduation for the Class of 2020 on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 8 PM in the Roncalli Stadium. Graduation will be held in the stadium, rain or shine, unless directives from the governor's office or the Marion County Health Department prohibit us from doing this. We will remain in communication with our seniors and their parents throughout the summer with regard to the plans for July 21. Please join us in praying that we are able to gather together on July 21 to celebrate this outstanding class of seniors!
While we were saddened to have to cancel our traditional theatre camp, we are excited to announce a new format for the summer!

All pre-registered campers will be notified of changes to the new dates and times.
The full financial impact of COVID-19 has yet to be felt by many of our families, but we are well aware of the impending difficulties a significant number of our families may incur. In the face of this upcoming financial stress to our community we will soon be forthcoming with a timeline, fundraising, and additional assistance, specifically earmarked for the anticipated increase in the need for financial assistance. We will continue to work with families on adjusting tuition payment schedules if needed as well.
We have been asked if tuition payments are still being processed if mailed into Roncalli. The Business Office is working to process tuition payments weekly. Checks, money orders, and tuition coupons with credit card information can still be mailed to the school as we are picking up the mail directly from the post office. If an account balance is needed please email Barb Hatfield.
Aloha Rebels! Are you interested in going to beautiful Hawaii? This two week trip will be next Summer 2021. Students will snorkel at world-renowned beaches, hike volcanoes, swim with manta rays, see waterfalls, learn Hawaiian culture, and take a submarine tour, all while studying Marine Science and earning a science credit. This is an initial callout for anyone seeking additional information on the trip. Please email Ms. Carroll, to be sent additional information about this unique adventure and check out the video from the 2019 trip.

The Roncalli Cafeteria has our motto: “We will not rest until we are the world’s finest cafeteria. On March 13, 2020 our efforts to be the best school cafeteria were abruptly halted. We missed serving all of our students over the past 2 months and we especially missed seeing our seniors enjoy some of their favorite foods for the last time.
We hope to see most of you back at school in the fall. For you seniors, we hope you come back to visit when you can. Many of your families may have questions about money left in your MealTime accounts. Our policy is to transfer remaining funds from our senior students into their siblings’ accounts at the end of the year. Those who don’t have younger siblings who will be at Roncalli in the fall will receive a check if their balance is over $20. If you did not pick up your check this week during locker cleanout days, we will be at graduation on July 21st to distribute money and collect money owed. Checks remaining after that time will be mailed.
With current economic conditions in our country the way they are today, you may also be considering applying for free or reduced priced meals for your student for next school year. Please be patient. New applications will not be available until after July 1, 2020.
We plan on having online applications for free/reduced meals for the first time ever this year. This should make it much easier to apply. Also, if your student is already on free or reduced meals from this school year, please know that that eligibility extends into the first 30 school days of next year. If you have questions regarding free/reduced meals, email Eileen Horan.
Archbishop Thompson and other priests of the Archdiocese are celebrating a Mass each day that will be posted at ARCHINDY.ORG. Please note that the times of the Mass vary, and all are encouraged to check the website daily for updates.
