We love our seniors! This Saturday, May 23rd at Roncalli High School 9 AM until Noon. Come for a drive-thru parade down Prague Road and around the circle! The parade will be "capped" off with some goodies to help you celebrate and get ready for July 21st! Gather in the St. Jude parking lot any time after 9 AM. Cars will be released by a teacher. One car per family, please. You are welcome to decorate your cars!

Students will be allowed in the school building to return their textbooks and clean out their lockers during the week of May 26-29 (see schedule below). All Roncalli employees helping on these days will be wearing masks and gloves. The building will be sanitized nightly. We respectfully ask that students wear a mask and gloves during the time they are in the school building.

Here are specifics regarding the four days allocated for textbook return/locker cleanout:

  • The main entrance (#1) will be the only entrance open for students to enter.
  • We will limit the number of students in the school building at any one time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may create in terms of wait time.
  • The check-in process will occur in the old gymnasium and will include the following:
    • Students will return textbooks.
    • Students will receive their locker combination if needed.
    • Students may submit their chromebooks for insured repairs.
    • Seniors and non-returning students may donate used uniforms.

    • Seniors may donate their chromebooks.
  • Freshmen and Physical Education assistants will clean out their Physical Education locker and turn in their locks per the direction of staff before cleaning out their school locker.
  • Once the student returns his/her books in the old gymnasium, they will be given time to clean out their locker.
  • All students will check out and exit the school via the auditorium entrance. Check out will consist of the following:
    • Distribution of textbooks needed for AP summer work (when applicable)
    • Unused medicine

Staff members will be present in the gymnasium, hallways and throughout the building to ensure proper social distancing. Roncalli High School is excited to celebrate our fantastic seniors! Plans are set for having a memorable graduation for the Class of 2020 on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 8 PM in the Roncalli Stadium. Graduation will be held in the stadium, rain or shine, unless directives from the governor's office or the Marion County Health Department prohibit us from doing this. We will remain in communication with our seniors and their parents throughout the summer with regard to the plans for July 21. Please join us in praying that we are able to gather together on July 21 to celebrate this outstanding class of seniors!

For Class of 2020 Families, Principal Chuck Weisenbach, presented a webinar for our current seniors and their parents on Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 PM. He shared details regarding some of the senior activities we are planning for the coming weeks as well as information on graduation.

The full financial impact of COVID-19 has yet to be felt by many of our families, but we are well aware of the impending difficulties a significant number of our families may incur. In the face of this upcoming financial stress to our community we will soon be forthcoming with a timeline, fundraising, and additional assistance, specifically earmarked for the anticipated increase in the need for financial assistance. We will continue to work with families on adjusting tuition payment schedules if needed as well.

We have been asked if tuition payments are still being processed if mailed into Roncalli. The Business Office is working to process tuition payments weekly. Checks, money orders, and tuition coupons with credit card information can still be mailed to the school as we are picking up the mail directly from the post office. If an account balance is needed please email Barb Hatfield.

There have been some questions from juniors about meeting the service requirement for the National Honor Society. Due to the restrictions put in place with Covid-19, we have reduced the mandatory service hours number to 90. This, along with the academic and disciplinary requirements, will be examined at the completion of the school year, and eligible students will be invited to apply in July. If you have any questions, please contact your counselor or Erin Bohn.

Free or reduced meals application for next year cannot be accepted until July 1. We are in the process of updating the online application.

Here are the updated links to free meal locations.

The Roncalli Cafeteria has as our motto: “We will not rest until we are the world’s finest school cafeteria.” On March 13, 2020 our effort to be the best school cafeteria was abruptly halted. We miss all our students, and we especially miss seeing our seniors enjoy the last time we serve some of their favorites in the cafeteria, like the last Asian Bar, last crispitos in the shake room and of course, the last day to buy school cookies.

We hope to see most of you back at school in the fall. For you seniors, we hope you come back to visit when you can. Many of your families may have questions about money left in your MealTime accounts. Our policy is to transfer remaining funds from our senior students into their siblings’ accounts at the end of the year. Those who don’t have younger siblings will receive a check in the mail if their balance is over $20. With graduation ceremony plans still fluid, we will wait to see if there is a time when graduation gowns are distributed. That is where we could collect money owed and distribute account balances less than $20.00.

With current economic conditions in our country the way they are today, you may also be considering applying for free or reduced priced meals for your student for next school year. Please be patient. New applications will not be available until July 1, 2020.

We plan on having online applications for the first time ever this year. This should make it much easier to apply. Also, if your student is already on free or reduced school meals this year, please know that that eligibility extends into the first 30 school days of next year. If you have questions regarding free/reduced meals email Eileen Horan.

Archbishop Thompson and other priests of the Archdiocese are celebrating a Mass each day that will be posted at ARCHINDY.ORG. Please note that the times of the Mass vary, and all are encouraged to check the website daily for updates.
