RONCALLI WELCOMED CENTRAL CATHOLIC ON SHADOW DAY

Central Catholic Shadow Day

Roncalli's South Deanery shadowing visits have begun! Last week, the Central Catholic Saints joined us on Friday. Each school that visits enjoys a pre-day program, spends time in two classes, eats lunch down in the cafeteria, hears from different students and administrators and watches a performance by the Roncalli Show Choir. We are excited to welcome the rest of our deanery schools throughout the rest of the semester!

FAFSA NIGHT OCTOBER 3

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid will open on Monday, October 1. On Wednesday, October 3, Roncalli will host a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) update meeting at 7:00 PM in the RHS Auditorium. Heidi Carl, Associate Dean for Enrollment and Director of Financial Aid at Wabash College, will be the presenter. In addition to the FAFSA update, other topics which will be covered include grants, scholarships, work-study and loan programs.

Please note: although you may not qualify for financial aid, there are other ways your child may receive funding which would require a FAFSA form to be completed and filed. We recommend that all potential college-bound students fill out the FAFSA; however, here are some programs which do require (*) or may require the FAFSA:

  • 21st Century Scholar Program*
  • Work Study Programs*
  • College / Private Scholarships
  • Student Loans

FRESHMEN/SOPHOMORE COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT 10/9

The RHS Guidance Department will host a college planning night for freshmen and sophomore students and their families on Tuesday, October 9, beginning at 7 PM in the auditorium. Students and families can learn more about how important it is to start the college planning process now, along with specific ways to begin the college search.

In addition to information from the Guidance Office, admission representatives from Marian University, the University of Indianapolis and Purdue University will also share tips on making the most of the college search and on the college admission process, in general.

COLLEGE VISITS

Official College Visits are very helpful in the college planning process:

  • Students and parents can compare colleges in terms of size, majors, cost of attendance, scholarships, college atmosphere, and overall "fit."
  • Students see how their current coursework/grades connects to their future goals, often providing students new academic motivation
  • Students can explore various majors/careers by scheduling an information session in addition to their campus tour.
  • Our RHS counselors strongly recommend the first college visit take place sophomore year, during the school day or on a weekend Open House visit. Juniors and Seniors are likewise encouraged to make at least two official college visits.

This form must be used when arranging an official college visit as an excused absence, and provides directions to scheduling a campus visit. Questions? Please contact your guidance counselor.
