2018 Roncalli Wins Chick-Fil-A Challenge

Thank you to everyone in the Roncalli Family who “ate more chicken” last week and helped push Roncalli to another victory in the Chick-Fil-A Challenge versus Franklin Central! The proceeds Roncalli received from this year’s challenge will go to support the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Thanks to all who support the Chick-Fil-A Challenge and/or cheered the Rebels on.

Great job!

2018 Canned Food Drive

This year's Canned Food Drive has been an overwhelming success! In the first four days of the drive, nearly 900 students and staff have donated over $29,000 and 6,600+ cans, all of which will be donated to food pantries throughout the city. While we've yet to include the totals from our final collection day, we can announce that we have at least DOUBLED last year's participation and donation totals! Thanks to all in the Roncalli who have contributed to this year's drive.

Be sure to mark your calendars for our annual Blood Drive, which will be held on campus on Tuesday, October 30, from 2:00-8:00 PM. More details coming soon.

At halftime of Friday night’s Roncalli-Bishop Chatard football game, former Roncalli football head coaches Bruce Scifres and Bob Tully will be inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. Click here to read more.

Scifres spent 27 seasons as Roncalli’s head football coach (1990-2016), winning seven state titles. He led the Rebels to state championships in 1993, 1994, 1999 (all in Class 3A) and 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2016 (in Class 4A). Only four coaches in Indiana high school football history have won more state titles than Scifres. He won 248 games during his Roncalli tenure and ranks 27th all-time in wins among Indiana high school football coaches. Scifres resigned following the 2016 State Championship season to become the executive director of the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

Tully has had a multi-decade involvement with the Roncalli football program, including serving as an assistant coach on the inaugural team at Roncalli in 1969 and spending four years as the program’s head coach from 1970 through 1973. The 1971 and 1972 teams combined for a 15-5 record and were the first two winning teams in program history. Tully’s 1972 team went 8-2, a record that was topped only once in the first 12 years of the program. Tully currently serves as Roncalli’s vice president for mission and ministry.

A required freshman parent meeting was instituted ten years ago primarily as a means to establish or insure some “common ground” between our parents as primary educators and Roncalli as secondary educators. The meetings have received positive reviews from parents. Any parent/guardian of a freshman who previously has not had a freshman child at Roncalli needs to attend one of these Required Freshman Parents meetings. Click here to learn more.

There are four opportunities for parents to attend one of these meetings. The dates are September 4th and 18th. The meetings begin at 7:00 PM in the school’s auditorium and will end promptly at 8:30 PM.

NOTE: Parents who have had a freshman student previously at Roncalli are not required to attend one of these meetings. Failure to attend one of these meetings will result in the student not being allowed to stay at Roncalli for the second semester of the school year.

Please direct all questions to principal, Chuck Weisenbach 787-8277, extension 224.
