We did it!! We made it through the first semester of the school year despite all the challenges along the way. A huge thank you to all of our students, parents, teachers, administrators and staff as it was truly a team effort! Great job Roncalli!!
In our continued efforts to best serve all in the Roncalli Family, we remain in dialogue with the Archdiocesan Office of Catholic Schools, the Marion County Public Health Department and the South Deanery Catholic Schools just as we have been since the start of this pandemic. Having taken into consideration all of the feedback that we have received, internally and externally, we have opted for the following plan for when we return from Christmas break in January.
Roncalli High School will begin its second semester on Tuesday, January 5 and will do so in a full synchronous model with students learning from home through Friday, January 8. On Monday, January 11, we will move back to our hybrid model with students with last names beginning with the letters L-Z attending school in person. As was done in the first semester, we will offer parents/students the opportunity to attend school in person daily if that is desired by the family. We also will continue to offer the full synchronous model for students who wish to learn from home on a daily basis.
NOTE 1: Any student wishing to attend school in person daily beginning on January 11 as well as any student wishing to learn from home daily through the synchronous model beginning on January 11 will have to complete and submit this application by December 31.
NOTE 2: When a student selects to attend school daily in person or selects to use the synchronous learning model daily they will be required to stay in that model for an entire week. Students wishing to opt in or out of one of these models must notify Roncalli High School Assistant Principal, Mrs. Beth Reel, no later than noon on Friday in order for that request to be granted for the following week.
Our intent is to use the hybrid model through the month of January and reassess on a monthly basis. All of our decisions continue to be fluid and subject to change based on the health, safety and well being of our students, faculty and staff as well as on the directives issued to us by the Marion County Public Health Department and the Archdiocesan Office of Catholic Schools. Our ultimate goal remains having all students return in person on a daily basis as soon as that can be done without compromising the safety of anyone in our school and community.
Few, if any, schools in the state of Indiana have offered as robust an education on a daily basis as was done at Roncalli during the first semester. The efforts made by our students and teachers were truly remarkable and deserve much praise. On behalf of our interim president, Fr. Bob Robeson, our Board of Directors, and our administration, I extend my deepest gratitude to our students and teachers. You have been remarkable this year! I pray that during these coming weeks of Christmas break they will be rewarded with some much deserved rest.
As we join with Christians around the world in preparing for the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, it is fitting for us to offer praise and thanks to God, the Father Almighty. As such, I would like to close with a Christmas prayer written by St. John XXIII, while serving as Pope.
God bless you and St. John XXIII, pray for us!
Merry Christmas to all!
