Greetings Roncalli Parents, Guardians and Students:

All of us at Roncalli High School wish you and your loved ones a happy and blessed Easter!! May you find hope, comfort and joy in the Easter story!!

We have completed three weeks of E-learning and continue to be ultra impressed with the great work being done by our students and teachers! They truly have risen to the occasion and we could not be more proud of them!! The coronavirus cannot slow down the excellence found in the education at Roncalli!

We now have answers for students and parents as it relates to what our plans are for second semester exams as well as how grades will be computed for this second semester. Please read through this document carefully and reach out to me with any questions.

Second Semester Exams

We will not have comprehensive second semester exams. In their place we will use the dates for the last week of school for teachers to complete one final unit test that will encompass only material from the most recent unit/chapter the teacher has covered with the students. These unit tests will be taken by department according to the following schedule:

  • Monday, May 18 - Industrial Technology, Theology, Science
  • Tuesday, May 19 - Social Studies, World Languages, Fine Arts
  • Wednesday, May 20 - English, Business & Technology, Communications
  • Thursday, May 21 - Mathematics, Health, Physical Education

Second Semester Grades

In a normal school year the student’s second semester grade is computed by the following formula - Third quarter grade (40%); Fourth quarter grade (40%); Second Semester Exam (20%). Given that we are not having second semester exams we will compute the student’s second semester grade as follows: Third quarter grade (60%) and fourth grade quarter (40%).

Late Work Policy Moving Forward

Our teachers have been lenient to date with regard to students turning in work late. Beginning with our E-learning on Tuesday, April 14, teachers will begin implementing a late work policy. Students are strongly encouraged to complete and submit all work within the timeframe established by the teacher. Late work will be accepted but will be subject to the guidelines established by the teacher.

Cleaning Out Lockers/Returning Textbooks

Students will need the opportunity to clear out their lockers and return their textbooks which are school owned. Our intent would be for students to complete both tasks on the same day so families do not have to make multiple trips to Roncalli. We will be working on that schedule in the coming weeks and will communicate it when ready!

A reminder that Easter Monday is a “Growing In Your Faith Day.” Students and families are encouraged to use the resources supplied by their church and/or Roncalli to celebrate the Easter season. Students are to complete their attendance quiz by 10 AM but there will be no further E-learning on this day.

Please accept my biggest thank you for all of your assistance, patience and support this past month! We look forward to partnering with you in helping our students finish the school year strong!!

God bless you, Happy Easter and St. John XXIII, pray for us!

Sincerely

Chuck Weisenbach
